Nathdwara is renowned as the “Abode of Srinathji”, situated at the bank of river Banas. The lives of people here revolve around the Lord and it is common to be here to greeted with “Hare Krishna” or “Jaya Sri krishna”.

It was in the holy land of Vrindavan where Shrinathji’s idol was originally enshrined. During the destructive range of Aurangzeb, Rana Raj Singh decided to take Shrinathji to a safer place. While being taken to the decided place, the chariot miraculously stopped at Nathdwara and it was believed that the spot was chosen by the lord himself. It was then that the beautiful temple of Shrinathji was built in this city.

The idol is carved out of a large black stone, representing the incarnation of Shri Krishna lifting the “Govardhan Parbat”, along with images of two cows, a snake, parrot, lion and two peacocks imprinted on it.

Nathdwara is frequented by devotees from all over the country during the festivals of Holi, Janmashtmi and Diwali. Another significant festival celebrated zealously in this town is Annakutta.

Not only this, Nathdwara is also popular for its flavoursome sweets, “Pichwai” paintings and ivory items. The famous Pichwai paintings wonderfully portray the artist’s love for Lord Krishna, hence making it a unique artform.
